COMMITTEE & COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
Business Development Committee

Charles Scoville, Chair
|
Purpose:
Enhance the business environment in the Fort Madison area.
Activities:
Assist business start up referrals, facilitate applications to the City of Fort Madison revolving Loan Fund, maintain chamber website, and establish Fort Madison
Entrepreneurial Center, work with local elected officials to create
and maintain a "business friendly" environment, host the Annual
Small Business Appreciation Breakfast.
Goals
Cooperate with Fort Madison Economic Development
Corporation, Lee County Economic Development Group and the City of
Fort Madison to attract new business to the Fort Madison Area.
Develop a marketing video to describe the advantages of doing
business in Fort Madison to be played on local hotel televisions.

Government Affairs Committee

Matt Mohrfeld, Chair

Purpose:
Represent the Chamber members by communicating with the community and to public officials, positions
concerning local, state, and national public policy. Actively support candidates to local government offices that support a pro growth and pro business environments.
Host an elected official's roundtable. Publish and
distribute a public official's directory. Host an elected
official's reception in November.
Activities:
Host legislative briefings for the membership and public during the legislative session. Survey membership on community issues. Support candidates endorsed by the Chamber.
Goals:
Organize and host a series of business/government leader's roundtables.
Provide a proactive conduit between local elected officials and the
Chamber membership.

Industry Committee

Bob Huffman, Chair

Purpose:
To enhance the value of industry's Chamber membership by creating a community network of industry managers to facilitate networking. In addition, this committee will provide a common outlet for industry to work together to improve community relations.
Activities:
Host industry appreciation reception. Cooperate with Fort Madison Economic Development Corporation and Lee County Economic Development Group to host quarterly networking and topic meetings.
Goals:
Assist Fort Madison Economic Development Corporation and Lee County Economic Development Group in the recruitment and retention of industry in the Fort Madison area.

Membership & Budget Committee

Purpose:
Enhance the value of Chamber membership through various programs and educational opportunities. The committee is responsible for the recruitment of new members and oversees the Chamber's budget and fiscal matters.
Activities:
"It's Everybody's Business", Annual Membership
Dinner, annual small business appreciation breakfast, membership roundtables,
and new comer's reception. Prepare annual budget and review
investment and financials on a monthly basis.
Goals:
Enhance membership services, increase membership participation, increase communication with membership, and maintain budget and fiscal responsibility.

Community
Development & Fundraising Committee

Purpose:
Enhance the quality of life in the Fort Madison
area through projects and programs that will enhance and better
the overall image and livability of the Fort Madison area.
Additionally, organize fundraising events to enable the Chamber
to accomplish its mission.
Activities:
Cooperate with the City of Fort Madison
Officials to implement a Quality of Life Improvement Program and
continue the Beautification and Image Program. Organize the
third Annual City Wide Earth Day Cleanup. Conduct Lawn of
the Month Contest.
Goals:
Continue with the successes of the Jack Morris:
"Florida of Iowa" Golf Tournament. Raise $15,000 to
continue the Beautification and Image Program efforts.
Rejuvenate and enhance Senior Citizen's week activities in
October. Initiate a Christmas Decoration contest.

Executive Committee

Purpose:
To exercise the powers of the Board of Directors, when the Board of Directors is not in session.
Activities:
Oversees the day to day administration, management, and organization of the Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce. Host annual Past President's luncheon.
Goals:
Provide the Board of Directors and the Chamber committee's leadership in carrying out their functions.

Tourism, Events, & Attractions Committee

Purpose:
To enhance the economy of the Fort Madison area through the promotion of the Fort Madison area as a historical, cultural, recreational, and retail destination.
Activities:
Organize Brigham Young University Summer
performance series. Organize "Margaritaville on the
Mississippi" for June 30, 2007.
Goals:
Organize a "Fall Festival." Cooperate with area events, attractions, and tourism related businesses and groups to bring visitors to Fort Madison.

Ambassador Club

Purpose:
To improve and enhance image of the Chamber among the business community, our members, and general public. To assist with recruitment and retention of new members. To sponsor and facilitate social activities.
Activities:
Weekly Ambassador calls, ground breakings and ribbon cuttings, sponsorship of Ambassador social functions, and assistance with the Jack Morris: "Florida of Iowa" Golf Tournament
Goals:
Increase club member participation and club membership. Work with the Chamber Board of Directors to improve the overall image of the Fort Madison Chamber of Commerce.
