History lives on at Old Fort military life as it was on the rugged frontier of the Louisiana Territory. The Fort is an accurate reconstruction of the first military fort on the upper Mississippi. Authentically dressed historic interpreters take you through the day-to-day tasks of the soldiers and their families. Visitors are encouraged to partake of the past with the hands-on experience of trying a fresh baked morsel, dipping a candle or holding a musket. Open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays Memorial Day through Labor Day and weekends only in May and September.

Fort Madison Tri-State Rodeo

Since 1947, Fort Madison has hosted one of the nation's top professional rodeos. A 10,000 seat outdoor arena plays host to four performances, three of which feature big name Nashville recording artists. Catch the thrill of this ground pounding PRCA Rodeo action every year beginning the Wednesday after Labor Day.

Parade of Lights

The prettiest snowfall of the season arrives in Fort Madison's historic downtown each year on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. Amid a flurry of twinkling snow flakes high above heads, the Victorian era buildings are outlined with thousands of white lights. A spectacular Parade of Lights features over 50 shimmering floats that glide down Avenue G starting 6:30 p.m. The floats are all locally designed and lit with thousands of miniature Christmas lights.
